SAP members of Empangeni and Richards Bay march with pride through Empangeni’s CBD on Wednesday as part of the country’s National Police Day celebrations

Local police on Wednesday paid tribute to the sacrifices that our men and women in blue have made and continue to make as they fight crime and daily put their lives on the line in protection of every South African. Although National Police Day is officially earmarked for 27 January, local Cluster Five police from Richards Bay, Empangeni, eSikhaleni, Mtunzini and Ntambanana, came out in force on Wednesday to demonstrate their capabilities to the communities in all these areas. Addressing the assembly in Empangeni, General Lilian Nkomonde spoke forcefully of the police’s mandate to rid South Africa of crime and to root out criminal elements within their own ranks. She urged the community to partner with the police by providing the information they needed to put criminals behind bars.
