Minister monitors UZ registration process

Higher Education Minister, Dr Blade Nzimande, greets Unizul staff during his inspection visit on Tuesday
Higher Education Minister Dr Blade Nzimande returned to his Zululand alma mater on Tuesday.
But his stopover at the University of Zululand was strictly business - although he did take time off for a quick visit to his former student dorm.
Nzimande completed a BA degree at Unizulu in 1979, majoring in Public Administration and Psychology.
A statement by the Department of Higher Education and Training this week said the visit was to ‘monitor the registration process and to check that the 2010 academic year kicks-off smoothly’.
A closed meeting with the Student Representative Council leaders and students was followed by a tour of the campus facilities.
Concerned students waiting to be registered for their 2010 courses were reassured their studies would go ahead. Qualifying students would not pay registration fees, since they will get financial assistance from the Department of Education.
His visit to Unizulu followed a tour of the Pietermaritzburg campuses of the Durban University of Technology.
