No action on water waste

STORY: Megan Erasmus

water
Thousands of litres of water an hour are needlessly wasted - and still no answer from the municipality

Every Wednesday Empangeni resident Jean Harborth witnesses thousands of litres of water needlessly being wasted, gushing out of what appears to be an open reservoir valve. Living in Weightman Avenue adjacent to the fire station, it appears that the piping at the valve has either been damaged or stolen. ‘It has been happening quite often for the last month or so, and usually on a Wednesday. ‘Each time I have driven past, I have notified the municipality, but nothing is done. ‘It is such a complete waste of water,’ she says. Numerous attempts to ascertain from the municipality where this water comes from, who is responsible for the maintenance of the valve, or if it is indeed a valve, no response has been received at the time of going to print.
