The new 1 000 seater stadium at KwaMsane was completed in December 2009 and should be open for matches by Easter this year
Gearing up for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, KwaMsame now has its own 1 000 seater stadium.
The stadium, a boost for local soccer, is complete with an open air big-screen for watching the the World Cup games.
The bright and shiny new stadium reportedly cost about R14-million to erect and also boasts pavilion seating, a VIP area and underground change rooms.
The new facility includes four combination courts for netball and other sports, four flood lights, spectator ablution facilities, a caretaker’s house, gate house, training field with change rooms, two entrances, storerooms and eight lockup garages.
To take a look for yourself, keep your eyes peeled about two kilometres before Mtubatuba from the N2 south.
Designed and built by local companies, Mhlatuze Architects and Hlanganisani Construction, the project took from January 2009 until December to complete.
According to Mtubatuba Municipal Manager, Dr Michael Ntombela, the stadium was built by the uMkhanyakude District Municipality and will be officially handed over to Mtubatuba once the finishing touches are complete.‘We are very proud of our new stadium.‘It will provide great facilities for hosting sporting matches, and it may even be rented for music festivals and the like,’ said Ntombela.
