Up two places for Brackenham
STORY: Mike Harrison
League cricket was once again washed out, with only those matches played on astro turf getting a game in. Unizul, unable to field a team for the third successive week, withdrew and had to forfeit points against Kwambo. The matches between the two rugby club sides of Empangeni and Richards Bay and then between Felixton and uMhlathuze had to be cancelled. The same applied to the second division clash between eSikhawini and RBCT. This was a vital fixture at the top of the second division log, with both teams picking up a log point each for the draw. Brackenham advanced two places up the log with their six wicket victory over Mtuba. The latter won the toss and, thanks to some useful contributions from Reinhardt Hedder 37, and Jaco Bates 28, were able to reach a competitive total of 128 all out. Dylan Abrahams 5/15, and Rajen Govender 3/34, did the damage with the ball. Brackenham made a brilliant reply and, with excellent batting contributions from Trivend Singh, who top scored with 47, and 30 not out from Owen Govender, they were able to reach their target with six wickets to spare. Juan Boulle, with 2/46, was the pick of the bowlers. At Veldenvlei’s astro turf, the Richards Bay Rugby Club’s second team took first knock in their clash with Thandanani. It was a low scoring match with Chris Koogje top scoring with 22 in the rugby club’s 79 all out. Sibohelo Masinga 4/26, and Sibusiso Ntuli 3/5, were the wicket takers. In reply, Thandanani were dismissed for 68. Danie Schoeman 2/8, and Koogje 3/14, bowled their team to an 11 run victory.
