Two Bowl Trips
When the penultimate round of the Empangeni Bowling Club’s Two Bowl Trips competition was played last Thursday, the old saying ‘how the mighty have fallen’ sprang to mind when Peter Garbutt, the unbeaten log leader, suffered a huge 25-5 loss at the hands of Ettienne Steenkamp, who, by virtue of his win, now sits in the number one position on 8+47.
In second place on 8+22 is Casey Meyer, who accounted for Miskiet Ferreira 15-12, while Garbutt, now lying in third spot with a score of 8+17, remains a serious contender.
Rita Meyer, after a poor start to the tournament, continued on the comeback trail by beating Beryl Lovell 16-9 and is now handily placed at number four on 8+9.
Upcoming
This Thursday sees Steenkamp up against Casey Meyer, while Garbutt plays Rita Meyer with the winner of the tournament coming from anyone of these four.
At the other end of the scale, Tertia Coetzee (1-73) and Ann Aldworth (1-28) remain winless, but the word is out that their opponents Sue Mathias and
G Mountjoy better be prepared for a serious backlash as Ann and Tertia will be pulling out all the stops in an endeavour to break their duck.
The session prize, sponsored by Zululand Refrigeration, was won by Ettienne and Sonja Steenkamp and Kevin Jordan with +20.
