U20s sights set on season opener

STORY: Mike Harrison

With 45 players pitching up for trials at Mick Kelly Park on Saturday, and with nine others either absent or injured, Empangeni should have enough U20 players at their disposal to kick-start the season on Saturday 27 February. The trials were competitive and a useful indication of how strong the players will be this season. Their skills, especially their handling, were perhaps not what they should have been. But that’s to be expected at this time of the season. But generally speaking, the Empangeni U20 coaches can be pleased with what came out of the trials and they look forward to a confident start to their leagues.

Upcoming
They will travel to Port Shepstone this Saturday 20 February for a friendly against South Coast Warriors that will help the coaches finalise the teams. The Empangeni A side will take on Jaguars on the A field at Mick Kelly Park on Saturday 27 February at 3.30pm. The B team have drawn a bye, however, a game will be arranged for them against one of the local teams.
