The KZN Department of Education has commenced the first phase of the registration process for the newly opened educational facility in Richards Bay.
The BirdsView Academy opened its doors to Grade 8 learners last month after the private school acquired the minimum number of pupils needed for registration with the department.
Teaching and learning got underway immediately at the Business Study Unit, ZCBF Park in Richards Bay after top academic performers were selected for enrolment. ‘Mrs HT Mbatha from the Planning Department at the Empangeni District has completed the registration process at school level and School Governance will now proceed with the registration,’ said Principal, Mr D Govindsamy. ‘During her visit, she anticipated no problems as all educators are qualified and registered with SACE. ‘The Empangeni District Office is now expected to draft a report for the interest of parents,’ said Govindsamy.
In addition, Govindsamy said there was room to enrol more pupils provided they met the minimum entrance requirements and were at a school since the beginning of the year. ‘Parents and teachers are happy with the setup. ‘The District Office said they were impressed with the standard and quality of teaching and learning at the school. ‘Parents are particularly pleased about the instilling of human values at the school,’ said Govindsamy.
The school is currently following the National Curriculum Statement and expects to produce its first Grade 12 class in 2014.
The high school is expected to move to its permanent premises at an existing educational site in Pelican Parade in Birdswood in 2011.
