The driver of a vehicle which veered off the R34 and plummeted into a dam, died at the scene. While the man, believed to be in his late fifties, has not yet been identified, the cause of the accident has also not yet been determined. According to reports, the driver was travelling from Nkwaleni to Empangeni on Tuesday when the vehicle went off the road and landed in a dam. Emergency services personnel worked quickly to remove the driver, but he was declared dead at the scene. The incident occurred shortly after 4pm and the road had to be closed while the salvage truck removed the vehicle from the dam. The scene was cleared by 7pm.
