CANSA uThungulu has already raised over R103 000 during the weekend’s annual Shavathon initiative. People around Zululand flocked to the many CANSA stands at the weekend to face razor blades and spray cans for this worthy charity. Corporates and private businesses led the way with in-house Shavathons on Friday. ‘I am once again overwhelmed with the goodwill of the Zululand people,’ said Regional Manager of CANSA uThungulu and Amajuba, Erna Steynberg. ‘Currently we stand on R103 000 and there is still money outstanding,’ she said. All the money raised will stay in the area to render services to the community.

CANSA’s local services fall into six categories:
Facilitating care
• Emotional support and holistic care for cancer patients and family
• Volunteer driven care groups
• Training CANSA volunteers
• Awareness campaigns in schools, communities and companies
Lymphoedema treatment
• A trained manual Lymphoedema therapist to educate and assist patients and family members
Chemotherapy clinic
• Clinic services provided by a visiting Oncologist
Support group services
• Monthly meetings for patients, family and friends
Mobile clinic
• Awareness and service delivery in rural areas
