uThungulu District Mayor - Ald Stan Larkan welcomes the appointments of UDM Speaker - Cllr Ivan Naidoo and Deputy Mayor - Cllr BV Mthethwa

At a Special Council Meeting on Monday morning, the uThungulu District Municipality Speaker and Deputy Mayor traded places. Cllr BV Mthethwa resigned as Speaker and was elected to the position of Deputy Mayor, which had been vacated by Cllr Ivan Naidoo, who was then voted in as Speaker. Both were the only candidates nominated for the respective positions and the meeting was over within minutes. No reason for the change was made, other than that it was a ‘tactical move’ on the part of the IFP, which holds the majority in the Council. Cllr Naidoo expressed his wish that ‘we go forward in a spirit of unity and co-operation’.
