Leading up to the 2011 CANSA Relay, six helicopter flips were among the prizes offered by Bell Equipment in aid of raising funds for this 12-hour walking event in Richards Bay. Last week, winners cashed in on their prizes and enjoyed the rides with family. It was extremely special for first prize winner Piet and Louise Nel of Secunda, who bought the lucky raffle ticket at the Fishing Bonanza in Richards Bay weeks before the event. What added to this special and emotional win was that Nel’s wife Louise is a breast cancer survivor herself, having just been given the all-clear after undergoing treatment Their prize included R1 000 in cash and a signed Thanda Royal Zulu FC jersey, which they kindly donated to the Bell hospitality suite at the uMhlathuze Stadium so that other fans could enjoy this display. The second and third prize winners were Jan van Aswegen (Bell Maintenance Planner) and his wife Cindy, and the Visagie family of Carla, Chris and their mum Teresa who all thoroughly enjoyed their flips. According to Bell Equipment’s Cindy Turner-Souchon, Relay for Life is more than a fund-raiser, It’s an opportunity for our community in Zululand to join hands with cancer survivors to celebrate, remember and help fight the disease.’
