A run of top form from Marnus Ferreira in the UK amateur county cricket league

Another Zululander is making his presence felt in the UK amateur county cricket scene. Superstar Marnus Ferreria, as the local press has dubbed him, has not only notched up six 50s and one 100 in his 12 games so far, he also boasts an impressive average of 85 from numerous not outs. And he has been affectionately nicknamed ‘Click, Pop, Click’ after his teammates overheard him speaking Afrikaans to his family back home. Marnus is the wicketkeeper batsman for the Sharow Cricket Club in Ripon and has recorded the fastest 50 (57 in 21 balls) in the club’s history.

Drama
His landing at Manchester Airport was not without drama, however, as his luggage, containing all his kit, went astray. For his first game for his new club, he had to borrow kit and still went on to record a quick 40 not out. Fortunatley, he was reunited with his kit a week later. Drama struck again when he broke his bat, but fortunatley was sponsored a new one from GM UK. The Nidderdale Amateur Cricket League, which Marnus is playing in, features a massive 58 clubs and he has helped his club advance to the knock-out section. The club will now play on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday to complete the league by 15 August. Marnus’ batting blitz has not gone unnoticed. He has already been approached by three different clubs to join them next season, plus he has received an invite to ply his trade in Australia. Marnus is also captaining a team of overseas players who will play against a top Nidderdale side soon. So, it’s all looking good for another Zululand cricketer and we hope Marnus can continue his good run of form all the way to the final.
