Zululanders make their mark

STORY: Roger Lavoipierre

Sharon Nicoll and Rita Meyer
Sharon Nicoll and Rita Meyer claimed third place in the All KZN Pairs

In the All KZN Pairs which was completed last week, Barry Mutlow and Lukas Groenewald of Richards Bay, together with Steve Oberholzer and Mike Lovell of Country Club, won their sections, but the cherry on the top for Zululand was the performance of the Bowling Club pairing of Rita Meyer and Sharon Nicoll. They did themselves proud by finishing the tournament in third place. A great performance indeed. The fifth round of the Haigs Mowers Zululand League will be played on Saturday, with the men in eShowe and the women at the Empangeni Bowling Club. In the men’s section, log leaders Richards Bay B will be looking to consolidate their position when they take on Mandeni, who are currently lying third, while second placed eShowe A will be hoping to stay in touch with the leaders when they play Country Club A. Country Club B cross swords with Bowling Club and as neither side can afford to drop points, a tight game is to be expected. Mtunzini B are up against eShowe B and Mtunzini A will be endeavouring to register their first win of the year in their game against Richards Bay A. In the women’s section, the two top teams, Richards Bay B and Bowling Club, clash, Country Club meet Richards Bay A and eShowe play Mtunzini B. Local bowlers sadly received the news last week of the sudden and untimely death of Connie Stewien. Sincere condolences are extended to her family and her Mtunzini Club mates.
