Coal Terminal strike resolved
The nine-day strike by SA Transport and Allied Workers (SATAWU) members at Richards Bay Coal Terminal ended on Tuesday evening.
SATAWU officials finally accepted RBCT’s offer of a 9.5% increase and signed a three- year wage agreement. ‘We are pleased that the agreement has been reached with our union members,’ said RBCT CEO, Raymond Chirwa. ‘They have accepted our original offer of 9.5% wage increases. ‘We can now put all this behind us and focus our energies on moving coal, to the benefit of all our stakeholders.’
Chirwa confirmed that terminal operations remained unaffected during the course of the strike and that employees returned to work on Wednesday morning.
