Locnville springs on the Bay

STORY: Ronelle Ramsamy

Locnville
Top notch entertainment touches down in Richards Bay when Locnville will be performing live on Friday, 30 September at the ‘Spring Festival’

A decade of Zululand Expo takes a bow this year to usher in a fresher, dynamic, exciting and different showcase. This year, Zululanders can look forward to the new ‘Spring Festival’, which offers a vibrant transition from the traditional entertainment and exhibition event that has been a popular mark on the annual Zululand calendar. And setting the scene for a phenomenal splash of the new, the acclaimed South African duo Locnville will be performing live with the release of their second studio album, ‘Running To Midnight’ on the Friday of the ‘Spring Festival’. With no promises of ‘bigger and better’ but rather of ‘different’, the three day spectacular runs from Friday, 30 September to Sunday, 2 October at the ZCBF show grounds in Richards Bay. Zululand’s Locnville fans (Locnvillens) can be part of the new ‘sounds’ of Andrew and Brian Chaplin, who produced and recorded their new album over the past nine months in Cape Town, the USA and while promoting their debut album across Europe. The last 18 months have been a whirlwind experience for the Chaplin twins - achieving among others #1 Platinum Status success of their debut album ‘Sun In My Pocket’, winning the SAMAs for Best Newcomer and Biggest Selling Album, an international record deal and MK Award for ‘Best Newcomer’. ‘I’m really excited about our new album. We’ve let loose with experimentation in the sound. I think that this album is a huge evolution from our debut,’ said Andrew. ‘So far the response has been amazing and we cannot wait to present the album to the world. ‘This album is an amalgamation of all of our musical styles and influences into a conceptual album,’ said Brian.

Carnival
Boasting an exhilarating ‘carnival’ theme this year, visitors will walk into a completely different setup as the entertainment area will be moved out of the arena this year. The Spring Festival will also house a Food Court where families can enjoy a scrumptious meal in a friendly and warm dining area. In addition, shoppers can look forward to a feast of new and different exhibitors while children can make the most of a bigger Fun Fair. If that’s not enough, tech heads can expect a spread of the newest gadgets, electronics and innovations at the Technology Hall. The Spring Festival runs on Friday from 2pm - 10pm, Saturday 9am - 10pm and Sunday 9am - 2pm. Sponsors and corporates have been encouraged to be part of the new Spring Festival, with proceeds ultimately being pumped back into various community projects of the ZCBF. With limited space available, exhibitors can also apply though the website to book their spot on www.expo.org.za
