Accused unfit for trial after accident
The owner of a Zululand transport giant and co-accused in a diesel theft case, is still unfit to attend court following a serious car accident. NRB Logistics owner, Parmasivan Naidoo (40), was arrested in June together with manager of Crossmoor Transport’s Alton branch, Reuel Nathanial (32), for allegedly stealing diesel to the value of R145 000. Drivers of trucks delivering diesel purchased by Crossmoor at the company’s Alton branch were allegedly instructed by Nathanial to deliver a part of the consignment to NRB Logistics, where it was allegedly purchased at a discounted price.
A third accused, Marcus Rohan (27), was also later added to the charge sheet. Naidoo was, however, involved in a collision in October this year, during which he sustained spinal injuries. Naidoo’s attorney handed in a medical certificate by a neurosurgeon confirming Naidoo sustained spinal injuries, underwent surgery and was hospitalised in the intensive care.
While Nathanial and Rohan have been transferred to Regional Court for trial, Mr Singh told the Richards Bay District Court Magistrate his client has still not recovered sufficiently.
The case has been remanded to 8 December for Mr Naidoo to appear in court and be transferred to Richards Bay Regional Court where the case will go to trial. All the accused are on bail.
