No holiday for crime

STORY: Ronelle Ramsamy

Richards Bay SAP members were out in full force conducting roadblocks at the John Ross Highway/Mondi intersection on Friday

Negligence is an open invitation to possible criminals. That’s the warning from Richards Bay SAP members, who have been out in full force conducting visible patrolling in various hotspots, beaches, recreational areas, suburbs and the CBD. This comes as various incidents of negligence have been spotted including open gates, driverless cars idling, bicycles left in the yard and laptops left in cars among others.

Police have urged residents to be alert and responsible over the holiday period and to ensure that their properties and possessions are secure at all times. The zero tolerance approach to crime over the festive season has seen the men and women in blue out in numbers with even administrative staff on duty and working on the ground. Roadblocks and stop and search operations were held at strategic points in Richards Bay on Friday. Motorists have been warned of the strict ‘no drink and drive’ campaign while alcohol is being confiscated from beachgoers to Alkantstrand in Richards Bay.
