Brightening up Zululand - one brush stroke at a time

STORY: Megan Erasmus

work in progress
A work in progress

It started last year when artists painted a welcome greeting and logo for the uMhlathuze Municipality, a project that will hopefully be finished by mid-February. As many residents have noticed, the retaining wall running along the Empangeni’s Main Road is once more the blank canvas of local artistic talent.

Akesh Ramdhani, Manager of JR Signs who won the tender to paint the mural, says it is a big and challenging job and will take some time to complete. ‘The mural in its entirety will include the municipal logo, a crocodile in water and lots of colour.’ Ramdhani says the artwork was provided by the municipality. uMhlathuze Chief Communication officer, Vukile Mathabela, says the project is part of the municipality’s City development initiative.
