Bursary funding for top City college achievers

Sindi Mthiyane, Phiwayinkosi Sibiya, Nkosinathi Dlamini, Sthembiso Cebekhulu, Sandile Cebekhulu and Mbongeni Nsibande with Wimpie Britz at the bursary handover on Friday
Twenty five students who matriculated with top results in mathematics, English and science were awarded bursaries worth over R50 000 by the uMfolozi FET College and relevant Government structures.
In partnership with radio station Ukhozi FM, through SABC’s Touching Lives initiative, all the partners were brought together over the air.
They will also be assisting the College in finding industry partners that will accept these students for in-service training after they have completed their courses.
On admission these pupils wrote a competency test which was used to evaluate what sort of field each learner is more inclined to succeed in.
The main purpose of this project is to afford a skilled underprivileged learner an opportunity to gain both theoretical information and practical training in order for them to qualify as artisans and find jobs in that field. Wimpie Britz of the uMfolozi College commented that there is a shortage of artisans in our country and this opportunity will definitely bring new people into this field of work. ‘Our workshops at uMfolozi FET College are fully accredited by MERSETA and ESETA and we will ensure that these pupils are given the best opportunity to learn as much as possible whilst under our training,’ said Britz.
