Donations of material, wool, ribbon and cotton by members of the community have set the spindle turning again for ladies of Richards Bay’s Golden Years Club. From sowing, knitting to crocheting clothes, the talented group of women continually make an impact in society through various community projects. Armed with needles and pieces of material and wool, the ladies produce colourful beanies, scarves and clothes all year round for abused and orphaned children. But their community projects were temporarily halted owing to the lack of materials, wool, ribbons and cottons. Following a call for donations in the Zululand Observer last month, members of the community heeded the plea to help. ‘This material will keep them going for a short while,’ said Ann Oxley. ‘We do need more supplies, but we wish to thank those who generously donated items. ‘They are all pensioners with a very limited income. Volunteering their services, the ladies also assist the Seafarers’ Mission to knit beanies and scarves for over 800 seamen annually, while also making blankets for animals housed at the SPCA. The organisation once again appeals to the public to assist with the donation of left over pieces of material and wool. For more information, contact Ann Oxley on 035 7893954 and arrangements will be made for collection of items.
