The uThungulu netball team in action

Training on empty stomachs and with taped up sports shoes, the uThungulu senior men’s netball team still manages to do the region proud.
The team is now preparing to travel to the Cape next month to take part in the South African netball championship. In the last eight years the team, who plays and trains under the most trying circumstances, still managed to achieve exceptional results. The team still holds the record for the most players selected from one team to represent the country. It has never been equalled. The team’s CV also highlights the deication and sheer determination shown by the players. At last year’s SA Championship in Potchefstroom they achieved third position and prior to that, have never achieved less than third place in the competition since 2002. However, this year the team is plagued by financial difficulties which may see all the hard work go to waste. The players are unable to find sufficient funds required for their travel and food, let alone the entry fees and cost of basic playing kit. The netball players are asking for any support or sponsorship to help them carry on. Contact Magda du Plessis on 082 9577701 or Teresa Springorum on 072 5747959.
