Dolosfees D-day is here

STORY: Dave Savides

Naval Island
There was plenty of cleaning-up to be done on Naval Island in preparation for the Dolosfees, after last week’s violent wind storms

For less than R10 per show, visitors to this year’s Dolosfees will see and hear some of the country’s best entertainers in action. The Naval Island spectacular starts on Thursday and runs through to Sunday. And the more you watch, the cheaper it gets. ‘The weekend pass costs R200 and gives the ticket holder access to all the music stage shows, events, stalls and many other activities,’ said organiser Elise Boshoff. ‘The only extra cost is the special theatre events. ‘With over 30 separate items on the programme this is value for money at its best - one normally pays more than that for any single show or concert in the big cities.’ No fewer than 22 singers will grace the three stages on the island. With the big names of SA stage, TV and showbiz in town, the Dolosfees is set to further enhance its growing reputation as one of the country’s top music and art festivals. And as a special bonus, the SA jetski champs will be happening off the island on Saturday. Coupled with this is the push to promote Richards Bay as South Africa’s ‘Town of the Year’, and the awesome natural setting on the island will go a long way to advertising the city’s scenic beauty. Not even the winter weather gods will spoil the show as all events take place under tented shelter. There is no parking on the island but vehicles will be well guarded at the open space opposite the Mzingazi Waterfront and a bus service will ferry patrons to and from the island. Plenty of food and refreshments will be available as well as more than adequate toilet facilities.
