Wild West shoot-out in Empangeni CBD
Congratulating the new uThungulu District Municipality Speaker - BV Mthethwa (second right) are Nkandla Mayor - Zwelakhe Zulu, Cllr Ivan Stone, Mthonjaneni Mayor - William Harris, uThungulu District Deputy Mayor - Ivan Naidoo, IFP Chief Whip - Thama Khumalo, uThungulu District Mayor - Stan Larkan and uMhlathuze City Mayor - Zakhele Mnqayi

‘COMING back from the wilderness’.
That was former uThungulu Mayor BV Mthethwa’s comment after being elected to the top position of Speaker for the uThungulu District Council on Thursday morning at a special Council sitting.
‘I have been in the wilderness for the last 18 months, but I have enjoyed it as God has been with me. He let me undergo intensive training and today my heart is full of peace, joy and happiness,’ Mthethwa said.
He said rumours and suspicions in 2007 that he would cross to ‘the competition’ remained unfounded and that he remains a member of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP).
Both uThungulu District Mayor, Stan Larkan, and uMhlathuze City Mayor, Zakhele Mnqayi, welcomed Mthethwa’s return.
The election of a new Speaker followed the resignation of Dr Nkonzoyakhe Godshero Donda.
With Mthethwa nominated for the position of Speaker, his Council seat fell open and Cllr Ivan Stone was elected to fill the vacancy.
